Book Club 2 Questions;
What will happen with the dark haired girl? Is this a trap?
How will she impact Winston's future actions?
Does O'Brien continue to play a role here? Why?
Do you think the shop keeper is a safe confidante? Why?
I think that the Dark haired girl will play a large role in Winston's future because there is a large reocurring theme of love/desires. I predict that the dark haired girl will instigate future actions with Winston that go beyond thought crime. It has been discussed previously that sex is thought to be considered wrong and immoral, so the best way to go against big brother would be to break one of their rules and I think this is one that Winston and this dark haired girl could break.
ReplyDeleteI personally think the shop keeper-Mr.Charrington is not a safe confidante because it seems suspicious to me that such old man still living in Oceania would try to betray the party after all those years. The fact that he shows Winston the "room without any telegrams" seems out of context and shady. I have a feeling that Mr. Charrington might be planning something big(aka trap) to catch disloyal members of the party.
