What did Winston tell Julia in his dream?
Do you think America would ever enter a totalitarian state? If so, how do you think our citizens would react?
How do you think things would be different if Julia was actually a spy?

ReplyDeleteI believe America will probably enter a totalitarian state in the future because the government's enforcement keep increasing and increasing. The government will probably want to control the people to an extreme. There will be no actual freedom. In the beginning the citizens will start protests but the government has more power than the people. The citizens will eventually do as the government say to stay alive.
I could see the US becoming a totalitarian state in the future. If it were too happen though I don't think it would happen willingly or knowingly.
DeleteIf Julia ended up being a spy Winston would have continued on his downward spiral. Julia is one of the reasons that Winston has decided that he is against the party and has allowed him to develop his hatred as well as act upon it. I think that Winston probably would have killed himself if Julia was a spy because when she said she loved him his depression went away.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with this. He decided to act on his rebellious thoughts in the safety of his home. He was smart by only writing away from the telescreens and protected himself. Julia, however, changed this. She encouraged him to act out more openly and with less caution. He became less focused on himself and more on Julia, which would end poorly for him in the end.
DeleteI fully agree! If Julia was a spy Winston wouldn't know how to act or what to do with himself, considering how much information he shared with her. Winston felt as if he had some kind of connection to Julia and if she was a spy he would have feelings of betrayal and self loathing.
DeleteIf Julia was a spy, the entire story probably would be very different. Julia wasn't a sex slave, really, but the acts of having sex and having the power to have sex even though the Party condemns it, gives Winston hope, and strengthens his confidence. Without this, he might not have blurted out he was against the Party, and he might not have gotten captured.
ReplyDeleteI some what agree that the story would have been different if Julia was a spy. However I think the beginning of the story would remain the same. If she was a spy I think she would still try and get with Winston however in the end she would expose him. So everything would be the same expect for the ending. If she was a spy basically everyone would be against Winston and their main goal being to expose him.
DeleteIf Julia actually was a spy I think Winston would go back into his depression and would stop thinking about the party. She fueled his hate for the party and made him want to act on it. Also, when she said she loved him he wasn't depressed anymore so I think if she actually was a spy he would be devastated.
